SuperWolfBloodMoon
Sunday night we bundled up to watch the skies for the Super
Blood Wolf Moon; it was amazing to watch the full moon go through an eclipse
and then shadowing turning to a beautiful copper color. We tried to get full shots, but the cold made
it hard to stay out for long periods and get camera settings right.
To get its name four different lunar events have to line up.
It will be 18 years until this spectacular event takes place again.
- Super Moon is referring to when a full moon happens when the earth and moon are closest to each other, making the moon appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter.
- Blood Moon (Total Lunar Eclipse) refers to when the sun comes between the earth and the moon and the earth’s shadow is cast onto the moon, turning the moon into a beautiful coppery red color.
- Wolf Moon is thought to be a Native-American/Early Colonial American term for the first full moon of the year; actually each full moon in the year has a name according to the Old Farmers Almanac.
